In Archbishop Ryan High School, the students have been allowed to carry cell phones around for years, but the phones need to be turned off and not used throughout the day.

Many teachers and administrators believe cell phones are distractions that the students carry around with them. Although cell phones can be distracting, there are a few important reasons why having a cell phone in school can be beneficial.

Students can use their cell phones in class to access the internet to do research assignments. Having the cell phones can make getting information a lot more quicker and easier for the students who are advanced at using technology.

“Being able to use my phone in class to get information for my project gave me my information much more quickly than the school computers do,” stated senior Nicole Ritts.

With how advanced cellphones are nowadays, there are different apps students can download that could help them in classes. These apps include Google Drive, which includes Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. Having these apps on the phone can be a quick way for the students to get to their assignments and have them done.

Another thing the phones provide is a calculator. If students don’t have calculators during class, they could pull out their phones to use.

Another beneficial reason could be if there is an emergency. If something bad were to happen during school hours it would be much faster for the students to contact their parents if their phone was with them. It would be better for the kids to contact their parents themselves rather than having all the parents call the school.

Although cell phones do have many disadvantages, having a cell phone always on a student could be very beneficial to not only the student but the teacher as well.
