Art covers almost every wall at Archbishop Ryan, but in the library there art that would look a little strange hanging from the walls.

Along the stacks and pushed up to tables near the comfy couches are chairs decorated by art students who are juniors and seniors who have been taking art classes for three or four years. Art students paint the chairs for a fourth quarter project grade.

“This is definitely one of the most-liked projects.  The students enjoy doing it,” said Mrs. Kramer, the art teacher.

Mrs.Kramer came up with this idea for Ryan after seeing painted chairs created by other people. She talked about the idea to the librarian, Mrs. Brelsford, and Mrs. Brelsford was on board. Mrs.Kramer does not have a particular favorite chair.  Her favorite part about this project is seeing her students hard at work and the dedication involved.

The painted chairs add a splash of color and creativity to the library. There’s a Superman chair, a Jimi Hendrix chair, a Ragdoll chair, and even a chair that is not only painted but also has a flowery vine attached to it. The students like to see the unique designs made by their fellow students.

“I like going to the library and seeing all the chairs made by my classmates,” said student Stevie Heim. “It’s impressive seeing what the art students are capable of doing.”
