Softball season is creeping up and the Archbishop Ryan girls’ softball team is known for their three year winning streak, but will this streak continue?

Captain Emily Ostaszewski is sure of it.

“No one is expecting us to win, so that makes us want it even more,” Ostaszewski said. “Our only struggle right now is pitching, but our defense is strong and defense wins games. We won’t have any troubles playing against our biggest competitions.”

Ostaszewski leads the team with fellow senior and captain Reilly Kerr. Ostaszewski plays shortstop and Kerr plays first base.

Senior Amanda Lawson agreed with Ostaszewski.

“We’re a younger team considering we only have four seniors and three juniors so it is going to be difficult, but our defense is strong and our offense is getting stronger every practice,” said Lawson, who plays left and center outfield.

This year the Archbishop Ryan Ragdolls are hungry for a ‘four peat’ and won’t settle for less. The Ragdolls’ biggest competition this year? Cardinal O’Hara, just as it usually is, according to junior Katelyn Ostaszewski, the Ryan’s third baseman.

Nonetheless,  she said, “I think we have a good chance in holding our title.”

The Ragdolls will play their first game this afternoon at 5:45 p.m. against Archbishop Carroll. The team was supposed to play Little Flower Wednesday, but the game was cancelled because of the bad weather.
