With Memorial Day quickly approaching, teens are hitting the stores to stock up on this year’s new summer trends.

Shopping at designer stores isn’t always  good for teenagers’ bank account. Try to stay away from American Eagle and Victoria’s Secret unless there’s a sale. Stores such as Charlotte Russe, Marshalls, JCPenney, Ross and Burlington Coat factory have clothes at an affordable price.

“I got the majority of my summer clothes at Charlotte Russe,” said junior Isabel Nilsen.”They have a lot of cute stuff this year and it wasn’t that expensive.”

Almost every store has loyalty programs or frequent buyer programs that send emails with announcements of sales and sometimes coupons.  These deals can be a handy way to catch savings. They also  might lure someone into buying things they really don’t need.  Psychologically people tend to shop when they think they are getting a good deal, and it’s not always so.

“I usually only shop in Victoria Secret and American Eagle when I get coupons in the mail,” said junior Maria Walker. “That shopping trip always ends up being expensive, though. I’m just going to not bring my debit card places so that I don’t overspend.”

Online shopping is very easy to overdo as well.  When people are too busy with school and work, there might not be time to go to physical stores. As a result  more and more special incentives to get someone to shop in the comfort of their home are popping up.  Huge companies such as Amazon allow the customer to find almost anything anyone can need. A customer can also find similar products and compare.  This helps shoppers make more informed decisions about what to buy.
