Summer is just around the corner and that means the school year is coming to an end. One exciting way that Archbishop Ryan celebrates summer coming is by having its annual school picnic.

Every year in the month of May Ryan students can look forward to a fun change at their lunch period. Instead of sitting inside the cafeteria and eating lunch, students have the option to spend their lunch period outside. All of the students and staff are welcome to dress down for free and enjoy free food and snacks.

The school picnic is run by Student Affairs with the help of student council.

“We have the picnic each year,  and I would like to think we have it to celebrate another wonderful year at Ryan and to let the faculty and students enjoy outside music, lunch and activities,” said Mrs. Ciraolo, Student Affairs Office secretary.

The picnic always has all sorts of fun activities going on that students don’t normally get to do. Some activities seen at last year’s picnic included face paint, volley ball, a DJ, and a moon bounce obstacle course.

“Last year’s school picnic was so much fun! They  added a bunch of new activities that we didn’t have the year before. I’m really looking forward to this year’s picnic,” said Jackie Schaeffer, a junior at Archbishop Ryan.

Besides the activities at the picnic, there is always a bunch of food to choose from. Some of the food offered includes hot dogs, pretzels, chips, cotton candy, and water ice. The best part about all the food is that anyone can have as much as they want!

For the students, this is one of the last fun activities they will get to do before summer vacation and for the seniors it will be one of the last things they get to do with their classmates before graduating.

So, get ready for the annual picnic because it will be taking place on Wednesday, May 24.
