On October 26th, our Archbishop Ryan girls and boys Cross Country teams ran against all of the toughest and fastest runners at the District 12 AAA meet at the Belmont Plateau. In this meet, all of the teams in District 12 competed. The teams included in District 12 are Cardinal O’Hara, Saint Hubert’s, Hallahan, Little Flower, Central, Girls High, Franklin Towne Charter, Bonner Prendergast, and a few other public schools.

The cross country districts meet consists of one event: the 5k which is 3.10 miles. At this meet freshman, Erica Lazar, received a medal for placing in the top 30. Along with Lazar, Ana Fratanduono, Frances Chung, and Bridget Lazar also received this medal. Approximately 70 girls ran in this meet, and it rained, which made racing even tougher.

“I think we improved a lot compared to last year. Last year we only had one person get an honorable mention for All-Catholic and this year we have one girl, Ana Fratanduono, with first team All-Catholic and two girls, Erica Lazar and I, with second team,” Lazar said.

Along with those girls, sophomores Frances Chung and Dan Digiorgio  received honorable mention.

“Personally, I dropped about a minute from my time this year compared to last year. I went from a 24.18 to a 23.45,” Lazar stated.

The best time out of all of our Ryan runners was by Erica Lazar with a 23.15.

The team’s season best runners are senior Brittany Kahhan, who is the only senior on the team,  junior Bridget Lazar, sophomores Frances Chung and Sarah Marple, and freshman Erica Lazar.

“I would say that all together we had a pretty successful season. We all worked hard and dedicated our time to be able to say we put our all into the season. It’s one hill of a sport,” Kahhan said.

Now that the cross country season has come to an end, these girls and boys look forward to preparing for their indoor track season.
