Ryan defeated Nazareth Academy Pandas on Saturday, December 23 by a score of 47-32.

Ragdolls traveled to Wildwood, NJ to play in the   Boardwalk Basketball Classic. The team was placed in the Genny Farnan-Robinson Memorial bracket game.  First up was Downingtown East, Ryan had the lead for most of the game. The first quarter ended by two consecutive three point shots by Shayne Glenn, giving Ryan a 18-12 lead, but the Ragdolls found themselves down at the half 20-22.  Ryan came out after half taking the lead with a combination of good free throw shooting and made shots to end the third 38-27.The Ragdolls increased the lead for a   convincing win 49-35.  Leading Scorers were Monee Moore with 14 and Danielle McCurdy with 13. The win placed the Ragdolls in the championship game the following night.

In the Genny Farnan-Robinson Memorial Championship game Ryan played Camden Catholic team who is 3-1 in their Olympic Conference National in New Jersey. To advance to the finals Camden Catholic inched out Neshaminy High School by one.

Ryan found themselves behind after one, losing 12-16.  The second quarter didn’t narrow the lead with the halftime score of 23-29, even with the two three-pointers by Luca Verello, but Ryan got the hot hand in the third.  Lead by Taliyah Rahman and Moore getting the Ragdolls a 36-34 lead.  Glenn came in for Ryan and scored a three-pointer right away and made another 3 later in the period.  After many free throws for both teams in the final minutes, the final was 53-48 Ryan, with Rahman scoring 13 and Moore with 11 to lead the Ragdolls.

“I think sometimes we either have film or coach will tell us what their style of play is, other times we hear about them or have seen them play to know, said Cashman on playing physical teams.

Returning from the Christmas break to play at home, the Ragdolls continued their winning streak against West Catholic last night with the final of 62-56.

The first quarter ended with the Ragdolls down 14-9 in a defensive type game.  The score at half had Ryan up 22-19 thanks to six points from Caela Russell and 5 from McCurdy in the second quarter.

“I think it’s all about communication, we should always know who we have because we should always be talking to each other,” said Cashman.” It’s not that hard to cover different people because we know who the shooters are and who to keep in front.”

Cashman had two 3 point shots in a row to start the scoring in the third quarter.  But West recaptured the lead 39-36 going into the final quarter.

“I think we all reacted to their (West) noise at first, but then after we adjusted we used it to our advantage and played off of it,” said McCurdy.

Once Ryan took the lead in the fourth they did not look back.  West had five players in foul trouble and substitutions at every stoppage.  The strategy of fouling the Ragdolls and then getting a rebound and score did not work out for West as Ryan was excellent on the foul line.  The Ragdolls went 12-16 from the foul line in the second half.

“We went into the west game with the same attitude we go into every game with, just to play hard and do what we do so we can let the game come to us, said McCurdy.

The final score was 62 – 56 bringing Ryan to 10-0 going into Thursday’s away game at St. Hubert’s.
