Sometimes, the toughest of times can produce the best material. American pop-punk band A Day to remember were pressured to release a new album by Victory Records. Due to them not being able to do that in the time allotted, their previous album, For Those Who Have Heart, was re-released with additional songs. The songs for Homesick were written while on tour, and producer Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory helped structure the songs. Trying not to alienate any listeners, they made the album heavier, while poppier at the same time.. Another main goal of theirs was to bring the music to the next level. Homesick was announced to the public in 2008, with a release date of February 17, 2009. The album ended being moved up to February 17, and that’s when it was released in the U.S.

Despite all the pressure placed upon them and all the goals they tried to accomplish, the band did not crumble under them, but instead rose above them all, and released a great album. Homesick was one of the greatest albums of the period and one of the band’s best works. While making the album poppier and heavier was a daunting task, they worked it perfectly. The band showed their wide arrays of talent and have plenty of tracks listeners will fall in love with. Songs like “The Downfall of us All” showed the heavier side and dealing with tough subject matters. On the contrary, there are tracks like “If It Means a Lot to You”, which show the poppier, more sentimental side. The Album’s crowning song would definitely have to be “Have Faith in Me.” the vocals were great, the sound was fantastic, and it showed the best of both sides of A Day to Remember. Want an album that combines pop-punk and metalcore seamlessly? Homesick is for you.
