The Ryan Ragdolls broke their school record with 16  consecutive wins on Thursday night over Bishop McDevitt.

The Ragdolls played two league games last week beating Conwell Egan at home 58- 24, then Bishop McDevitt 71-46 away.  Senior Annie Cashman led the Ragdolls in scoring at McDevitt with 17 points.  It was a team victory with eight members chipping in points.

The Ragdolls’ season ends with a string of very tough Catholic league opponents.  O’Hara visits Ryan on Jan. 23 and the Ragdolls are away at Neumann-Goretti on Thursday Jan. 25.

“I’m thinking that all of these teams are very talented and very well coached, but so are we and if we play to the best of our ability, we should come out on top. But it is very important when playing these tough teams, we focus in on finishing out the 4th quarter strong, making foul shots, reducing turnovers, and boxing out. If we do all of those things and play strong with confidence, we will be very successful,” said Caela Russell.

The team added another win to the record on Sunday night over York Catholic at The University of the Sciences. The final was 62-51 to enhance the team’s record to 17-0.

The basketball team members are very excited to be part of a school record.  “It feels amazing. Especially because we tried so hard to do it. Last year we tried to break the record and we came just a game short. I think now we’re one step closer to the many goals we have,” said Shayne Glenn.

Ryan currently is first in girls’ Catholic League play with a 7-0 record followed by Neumann-Goretti at 5-0.  Wood, Bonner-Prendie, Carroll and Lansdale Catholic have at most 2 losses and are just behind the Ragdolls.

The Ragdolls wrapped the season up with five consecutive loses against Archbishop Wood, Archbishop Carroll, Cardinal O’Hara, Neumann-Goretti and Archbishop Prendergast. The Ragdolls play O’Hara at O’Hara Thursday night in the quarter finals.
