Last season, the Archbishop Ryan Girls Swim Team earned the title of the Philadelphia Catholic League and District 12 AAA Champions. In February, Archbishop Ryan High School took the District 12 title back with a huge win against the other teams in the AAA League. The team now has held the district championship title for the past three consecutive years.

Meghan Kidd, Allison Henry, Sarah Vargas, and Sydney Aston competed in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. These swimmers had tough competition against Saint Hubert’s High School during this event, but did not give up and continued to swim hard. They won the event both at PCL’s and Districts, and will now continue onto states in a few short weeks.

Sophomore Allison Henry, broke a total of six records this weekend. The 100 Yard Butterfly and 100 Yard Breaststroke were district records. The original record for fly was a 58.37 and Henry recorded a 57.77. The original breaststroke record was a 1:05.29 and Henry went a 1:04.55. The other records that she broke were school records. The events were the 200 Yard Individual Medley, 500 Yard Freestyle, 100 Yard Breaststroke, and 100 Yard Butterfly. She broke the record for the 200 I.M. by a few tenths of a second. The 500 Freestyle record originally was a 5:16, and Henry swam a 5:07.42.

“My two seasons so far swimming for Ryan have definitely been apart of the best years of my life,” Henry said. “The team’s pride and love for the sport brings so much positive energy in the air which makes this team so special. Every single person on the team plays apart of who we are in such a fun and positive way, which makes me love this team so much. I could not have asked for a better team.”

Seven seniors graduated from the swim team at this meet. Sydney Aston, Tara Frino, Sarah Gudas, Kristen Johnson, Virginia Quinn, Connor Gripman, and Frank Masino.

This meet was filled with many accomplishments and time drops by all the swimmers. The team scored a total of 471 points finishing in first place above Saint Huberts, who scored 294 points at the District meet. At the Catholic League Championship meet, Ryan placed second with a score of 526 to Archbishop Wood who scored 603 points.

The following Ryan swimmers received All Catholic:

First Team: Sydney Aston (senior), Sarah Gudas (senior), Allison Henry (sophomore), Meghan Kidd (junior), Alyssa Sieck (junior), Sarah Vargas (sophomore), Winnie Wong (sophomore)

Second Team: Kristen Johnson (senior)
